The Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) initiated a process to identify a qualified firm to guide and execute a strategic planning process with involving both its Board of Trustees and staff to produce a three-to- five-year strategic plan.

TASK sought out The Br'Island Group as it demonstrates strong understanding of nonprofit structure and operations and has proven experience with nonprofit strategic planning. In making its selection, TASK identified TBG as having experience in working with clients that serve diverse low-income populations and a track-record of advising charities regarding how best to scale their impact and inspiring them to think innovatively will be preferred.

This proposal was submitted jointly by Br’Island Group and Princeton Partners in response to TASK’s RFP for strategic planning services. League of Women Voters of NJ

In working with The Br’Island Group, the League intended to re-examine the assumptions and strategies underlying its prior plan, and to develop an expanded vision for the future that considers the organization’s growth, the political climate, and the potential for greater impact. The League confronts a range of key issues as it considers its next strategic plan. These include: expanding and sharpening efforts to empower voters and defend democracy in New Jersey; strengthening governance and leadership; further operationalizing the organization’s commitment to DEI; addressing the intergenerational issues faced by the League; further expanding the network of local chapters in New Jersey to include Newark, Trenton, and other cities; considering new strategic partnerships to promote shared goals; strengthening the League’s identity and brand in New Jersey; improving the League’s voter registration and GOTV efforts; growing the League’s membership; generating increased financial support – potentially including a capital campaign; and more broadly, fostering the development of innovative ideas and creative new approaches that will accelerate the advancement of the League’s mission and vision.

The Br’Island Group team brought significant expertise to this engagement, including proven experience with nonprofit strategic planning, abilities to conduct effective stakeholder interviews, the depth of our knowledge of New Jersey’s political process and structure, and  familiarity with nonpartisan political organizations – as well as a commitment to rigorous research and evidence-based recommendations. The expertise in equity and diversity issues, as well as in organizational advancement, including communications and fundraising advanced the partnerships and mission through the strategic planning process.
